Our islands are all located in the Firth of Forth on the east coast of Scotland.
They stretch from the Bass Rock which is to be found at the mouth of the Firth,
westwards as far as Inchgarvie which supports the middle pier of the Forth Bridge.
The other islands are scattered in between - a distance of approximately 30 miles (47 km).
The Isle of May has a team of scientists who are resident for the whole breeding season
and they monitor the seabirds there.
Some of these islands are in the Forth Islands Special Protection Area. Those included
are Isle of May, Bass Rock, Craigleith, the Lamb, Fidra and Inchmickery and these were designated in
1990. Details of the SPA can be found on the
NatureScot website
